Hello 2014

Today is the first day of 2014. While I generally like to make goals for my birthday, is time to make goals, right? Well I have lots of goals so here are three general goals I will be striving towards during the coming year:

1. Move more- it is easy for me to get discouraged by my knees and stay glued to the couch.

2. Smile more-I want to try harder to stay focused on the good instead of dwelling on what is going wrong.

3. Be a "yes" girl- this is a continuation from last year but I want to make myself open to more possibilities and be less afraid of trying new things.

NOT TIRED YET

After last night's post I decided to wake up early and get my workout in before work that way if I don't make it to the gym tonight I wont beat myself up over it. I love TurboFire, Chalene always gets me pumped.

WORK V. WORKOUT

Recently I have been tracking my steps with an app on my phone and I have found that during an 8 hour shift at work I walk over 10,000 steps. Oh the joys of working retail. Today I walked 11,098 steps for a total of 5.7 miles, it was a relatively slow day. The problem that I have with having such an active job is that it is nearly impossible for me to get to the gym and with out the actually working out I will never lose weight. I think the real reason is not that I am not going to the gym but that I get home at 10:30 pm and am a ravenous beast. Late night eating is never good and I give it a large part of the blame for the 15 pounds I gained while working this job. The only way to keep me from cleaning out my cupboards when I get home is for me to workout after work but despite my best intentions– I packed my gym bag and everything– after 8 hours of moving around all I want to do is veg out.

Do you struggle making it to the gym after work? Any advice/suggestions on making it to the gym?

HINT, HINT

The problem with living in the city is that parking is sometimes impossible. Today I got all pumped and ready for the gym but the parking fairies had other plans. After driving in circles for 15 minutes with no luck I gave up and headed home.

Not one to let a perfectly good day go to waste I did the logical thing...online shopping. With only five days until Christmas can you blame me for having presents on my mind.  Behold my Christmas wishlist/gift guide.

Let's break it down.
one // cowl neck hoodie-honestly I can never have too many hoodies. They are perfect to throw on over gym clothes to and from.

two // Physique 57 DVDS. I love workout dvds, Taebo, TurboFire, Brazilian Butt Lift, Jillian Michaels, etc. Physique 57 is a workout I have been wanting to try for awhile and I think the low impact movements would be nice for my crazy legs.

three // Nike yoga shoe thingy. I hate being barefoot. I love the idea of these. I need them.

four // Yurbuds because my headphones are always falling out of my ears.

five // Handtowels may seem like a weird thing to want as a gift but wait until you are sweaty at the gym and realize you forgot yours and then you will realize how important they are.

six // Going to the gym requires a lot of stuff. Stuff that would fit perfectly in this bag.

seven // Light yourself up for your night runs or in my case walks so you don't get run over.

eight // Turbands are a cute way to keep your hair off your sweaty face

nine // Glass + plastic bottle-this would be very awesome for my homemade smoothies.

ten // Do you ever feel like your arms are on fire but your boobs are freezing, then this vest is perfect for you. Yeah, me either but this vest is cute and would make me much more excited about hiking if I were wearing it and that is all that matters, right?

eleven // Flip belt- for the stuff that is too important to leave in your gym bag

twelve // FitBit- recently I have been tracking my steps with a phone app and it has done tremendous things for my mood and fitness levels in regards to keeping my crazy legs working. The only problem with the phone is that I can't really check it as often as I would like while at work and so I think this would be awesome.

thirteen // NatureBox...food via mail...ummm...yes, please

fourteen // Light alarm clock- everyday for the past week I have set my alarm for 4:30 am but every morning I turn it off and doze back to sleep because there is no way I am getting out of bed in the dark, I think this clock would help with that.

fifteen // Rumble roller- I have found massaging post workout to be helpful in alleviating some of the pain I experience post workout due to my knee problems.

So there you have it, my list of things that I can't help but want as I try to motivate myself to make healthier choices. For where to buy these products for yourself check out my pinterest board here.

LET'S CALL THIS DAY ONE

There are so many things I want. I want my cat to stop clawing at the furniture. I want a job that relates to the Master's degree that I worked so hard for. I want my nail polish to remain unchipped for more than a day. I want to be healthy and feel like I have control over my body.

This is the story of how I try to incorporate healthy choices into my life. So let's call this day one. I have had more of those than I care to admit but at least I haven't totally given up hope right....right? I mean, c'mon, it is hard to make it to the gym when my adorable Otis is letting me know that he doesn't want me to leave by laying in my gym bag.
